UVA Health recently opened a new Same Day Care and Family Medicine clinic in Culpeper on July 21, 2025.
The clinic offers routine and walk-in appointments with Dr. Kearn Ghuman and FNP Heather Cannova.
It offers preventive care, management of chronic disease, women’s care, and same-day treatment of acute illness.
Key Background :
Over the past decade, UVA Health has had a strategic expansion of its network of ambulatory care and growing access to timely health services across the state of Virginia. Culpeper County was among its top priorities under the plan after the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) determined that there was a lack of primary care alternatives, which was further driven by population growth in the region.
Opening Family Medicine and Same Day Care Dominion in Culpeper is a direct response to such findings. Located in the Dominion Square Shopping Center, the building was made accessible with convenient parking and proximity to public transportation. Its dual system of care offering booked primary care and same-day visits allows patients to have access to preventive and emergent medical conditions without the necessity of using hospital emergency departments alone.
Services also extend beyond standard primary care. In addition to preventive screening, immunizations, and management of chronic disease, the clinic also provides women’s health services, school and sports physicals, and cosmetic injectables. Given all these various services provided, the practice is one-stop shopping for the family regardless of age.
The caregiving staff working at the clinic is headed by Dr. Kearn Ghuman, D.O., a family medicine experienced physician and Heather Cannova, FNP, who has experience in urgent care and can effectively treat the patients quickly. The facility is even planned for expansion in the future as more and more patients are added in the future, which reflects UVA Health’s long-term initiative of serving the people.
Community leaders were the driving force behind making this vision a reality. Donna Staton, COO for UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center, emphasized that the building is a building of strategic vision and partnership. She also referred to the leadership role of Charlie Barrell, community leader and board member, whose vision made the project a reality.
Early reception has been good, with expected appointment times being filled rapidly and feedback confirming the value of the facility. Through offering more preventive care access and same-day access, the clinic enhances a stronger local healthcare system and enables an expansion of UVA Health’s general mission of delivering value-based, patient-centered care.
